GOURDIN
The Gourdin Dynasty
Famous dynasty of the "Rue de Cléry", The Gourdin counted among their members three famous carpenters: Jean the father, Jean-Baptiste the elder son, and Michel his brother. Leading three different workshops, each of them knew how to establish a prestigious clientele and to answer important orders. From the Regence period to Louis XVI period, their work of art tell us the history of the XVIIIth century.
Jean GOURDIN dit Père Gourdin (1690-1764)
Member of a Parisian carpenter family, he was established rue de Cléry and signed " Pere Gourdin”. It is not impossible that initial I.G. preceeded this stamp. His career took place under Louis XV reign, between 1737 and 1763. His works belong to the louis XV style.
Jean-Baptiste Gourdin (1723-1781)
Master in March 26th, 1748. Elder son of Jean Gourdin, he had a workshop near his father. His stamp was "Gourdin". He manufactured mostly Louis XV seat-furniture
Michel Gourdin (1724-1797)
Master in May 3rd, 1752. Younger son of Jean Gourdin, he also worked rue de Cléry. Michel Gourdin so called “le jeune” signed with its own stamp "M. Gourdin". Some of his work can be seen at the Mobilier national, that let us think that he has worked for the Crown.
