Pierre Antoine DEMACHY
Pierre Antoine DEMACHY (1723-1807) Active on the second half of the XVIIIth century, is a Parisian history painter, townscapes and architectures. He was specialist of ruins paintings, architectural trompe-l'oeil sets and especially Paris views. Pupil of Servandoni, big Italian scenographer, Demachy was accepted to the Academy on 1755, became academician on 1758, adviser on 1775 and perspectives professor on 1786. He exposed to the "Salon" on 1793 and to the Pantheon on 1795. Demachy was an excellent draftsman and one of the biggest Hubert Robert rivals. His Paris views are a picturesque testimony of XVIIIth capital life. His compositions are geometrical, very thoughtful and technical. He often used light effects at night. His day’s skies are very brilliant, in delicate colors where the sun brings brilliant luminosity. He dies in the Louvre Palace, in Paris, on September 10th, 1807. Can be seen in French museums asuch as Le Louvre, Carnavalet, Versailles, Angers or Valenciennes. Also in Moscow or Budapest. |
