2015: THE YEAR EDITH PIAF!

100 years of the birth of PIAF.

Born in Paris on 19 December 1915, Edith Piaf would have been a hundred years in 2015. It will be celebrated in France, and in several countries.

She passed away October 10, 1963, and yet she's more than ever present in our hearts and in our souls, through immortal songs that all generations continue to hum around the world.

Known to debut "La Mome Piaf", she is the source of many successes become classics of the repertoire, such as« La Vie en rose », « Non, je ne regrette rien », « l'Hymne à l'amour », « Mon légionnaire », « La Foule », « Milord », « Mon Dieu » and « L'Accordéoniste ».

Singer with great interpretation and striking voice, she has inspired many composers, was the mentor young artists such as Yves Montand, Charles Aznavour, Lesv Compagnons de la chanson, Georges Moustaki. She knows a worldwide reputation, despite a late career made difficult by serious health problems and death at only 47 years old.

To mark the centenary of his birth, the François Mitterrand National Library in Paris devoted a major exhibition "PIAF" from April 14 to August 23, 2015.

Bringing together hundreds of documents of any kind (sound, image, written) that evoke the fate of the street singer which became a popular idol and an international icon, the exhibition brings to life one of the most famous voices of French song.

« Allez, venez Milord... », « Non, rien de rien... », « Si un jour la vie t’arrache à moi... », songs of Edith Piaf are in everyone's head. Her voice, her life, her repertoire, all helped transform the small street singer in a major star of the famous French popular culture around the world. The National Library of France offers the public to discover or rediscover the notes, images, words that made a legend Edith Piaf, and the largest French singer of all time.

The visitor will find the faces and the important moments of the life and career of the singer. It will also be invited to view different angles, how the daughter of entertainers has become the symbol of the people, by what miracle it still continues to be carried by a crowd of admirers. The exhibition will also show what roles were played on the radio, disc and press in the emergence of talented Piaf, until art and media, film and television, seized her and made it a legend.
